Alpaca Breeding Program
We use only
"pen" or hand breeding to ensure the health and safety
of both the male and female during breeding.
We strive for diverse bloodlines and we match each female to
a male that will complement and add to her good qualities and will lessen her more
undesirable traits.
We have had the opportunity to use some of the country's
most outstanding herdsires including Snowmass Legacy and 3Peruvian Augusto, two of the highest selling males in alpaca history.
Other superior males used in our breeding program are Victor's Vic Junior, PCA Hemingway Accoyo Nautilus and
PCA Accoyo El Nino, all of whom have produced many blue-ribbon winners.
In all our breedings, we've had improvements over the dam
and as a result we have some exceptionally high quality crias and weanlings
available for purchase.
Our goal in matching males to females is to produce a healthy
alpaca that
has:
 |
Straight legs. |
 |
Solid, heavy bones. |
 |
Good teeth with proper occlusion. |
 |
A friendly, gentle disposition. |
 |
Above average density in combination with fine, crimpy fleece. |
 |
Consistent histograms (fiber diameter tests) from year to year. |
 |
A healthy reproductive system. |
If you're looking for a specific type of alpaca, we can help customize your
search, as we know the background, lineage, strengths, weaknesses, and breeding
history of all our animals. We have histograms done on each alpaca every year
and the results are available to you, as is a current fiber sample if requested.
